Most professionals know they should post on Instagram and LinkedIn. The hard part is knowing what to post, week after week, without sounding like an advert.

The answer is educational content. When you explain something useful, clients see how you think and how you treat people, without you having to praise yourself. It also sits more comfortably with professional rules than self-promotion does.

The five post types that never run out

  • Explain a term: what a word your clients hear actually means.
  • Answer a question: the question you hear in every consultation.
  • Walk through a process: what happens, step by step.
  • Correct a myth: something people often get wrong.
  • Share a checklist: what to prepare, bring or check.

5 ideas for lawyers

  • What to bring to your first meeting with a lawyer.
  • Questions to ask before you sign a tenancy agreement.
  • The difference between a will and letters of administration.
  • Documents to check before paying for land.
  • How to keep copies of important documents safe.

5 ideas for doctors and clinics

  • What to expect at your first visit to our clinic.
  • How to prepare for your appointment so you get the most from it.
  • Questions to ask when you are given a new medicine.
  • What to bring when you register at our clinic.
  • How our appointment and walk-in system works.

5 ideas for dentists

  • What happens during scaling and polishing.
  • How to care for your mouth after a tooth extraction.
  • How to choose a toothbrush.
  • What to do if a tooth is knocked out.
  • When to bring a child for their first dental visit.

5 ideas for coaches and consultants

  • Three questions to answer before you hire a coach.
  • What a first session with me looks like.
  • A simple weekly review routine you can start today.
  • Signs your small business needs written processes.
  • How to set a goal you will actually track.

Rules to keep in mind

  • Never share client or patient details or images without explicit written consent. Doctors should follow MDCN social media guidance, and everyone must follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
  • Do not promise results or outcomes.
  • Keep it general. Add a line such as: "This is general information, not advice for your situation. Book a consultation for advice on your case."
  • Teach, do not boast. Avoid posts that praise your own skill.

How often to post

Pick a pace you can keep. Three useful posts a week, every week, does more for you than ten posts one week and silence for a month. Batch-write your posts on one afternoon and schedule them.

Get your profile ready first

New visitors will check your profile before they follow you or send a message. Your Instagram bio has 150 characters, so say who you help, where you are and how to contact you. On LinkedIn, rewrite your headline so it says who you help, not just your job title.

Do this today

  • Pick the five ideas above that fit your practice best.
  • Write the first one as a short post or carousel.
  • Choose three posting days and put them in your calendar.
  • Update your Instagram bio and LinkedIn headline.
